NVDA to END COAL - Cairns
Do you want to learn how to do non-violent direct action?
In July FLAC will be hosting a series of NVDA trainings in a number of cities around Australia including Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Cairns and online via Zoom. You will learn how to practice civil disobedience in your campaign in a non-violent way. You will learn why activists all over the world have used techniques such as locking on, tree sits, banner drops and occupations to disrupt business as usual. You will learn how to deescalate heightened situations and get an idea of the types of actions that you may want to be involved in the future. Why would you to learn NVDA you ask?
Australia is lagging behind the rest of the world, fundamentally failing to take the steps necessary to avoid catastrophic climate change and its associated ecocide. We need to train ourselves and build our strength to a point where we as concerned global citizens can shut down environmental vandals and save our planet, regardless of the wishes of corrupt politicians.
We will train you to have the skills to fight for the end of coal however you will be able to use these new abilities in many different situations in a variety of campaigns you may be involved in.
About Newcastle Mass Action:
Once you have completed this training we invite you to be involved in an exciting new event coming up in NSW (although it is not imperative and people are welcome to come along to the training without wanting to attend the Newcastle events):
Adani and its Carmichael Coal mine, the focus of the climate campaign for the past year along the east coast, has again gone quiet. Whilst we remain vigilant against this threat — #BlockadeAdani is staying put! — we are also ready to move on the next major strategic target.
Newcastle is the world’s largest coal port, it is located comparatively close to major population centres and it is a city that itself has a strong grassroots campaign against coal and fossil fuels. Newcastle is the place for this continent’s climate fight. Come and be the change we all want to see!
